Ikuko Iwamoto moved from Japan to London to do an undergraduate degree in ceramics at the Camberwell College of Arts. She completed an MA in ceramics and glass at the Royal College of Art subsequently. She is now a successful artist working from her studio in London.

Ikuko has been inspired by invisible things such as sounds, music and the microscopic world - cells, genes and organic forms. Every piece of her work is completely handmade. The general shape of the piece is usually created using a slip-casting technique with the moulds that she created by hand. And then she attached the decoration on the clay body one by one.

IKUKO 100 project was kicked off in October 2018. It is a marathon project of creating 100 vases over four years.

'The vases which are going to be created will be based on 2D shapes. This unusual process of making will be a good challenge for me to see how far I can go with shapes without relying on 3D thinking, and of course without losing its functionality.' - Ikuko Iwamato

Iwamoto has also decided to make them as edition of 20 for each vase. Once they reach their number, the mould will be destroyed.
