Handmade by Toshiyuki Sakai in Kasama, Japan
Handthrown plate in stoneware. Flower-shaped design. Crackled green glaze laid on the surface creates a stunning effect.
Crazing has been considered as a beautiful decorative effect since the Song dynasty. As a pot cools down after a firing, if the glaze contracts more than the clay body, it cracks or crazes. Sakai-san’s glaze is thick and the crackled pattern is quite appealing.
Dimensions: w-23cm x h-2cm
As all products are handmade sizes and colour may vary slightly
Toshiyuki Sakai uses a special combination of glazing and traditional wood firing to create his pieces, the exact method of which is a fiercely guarded family secret.
