Handmade by Mariane Chan in Hong Kong

In this series, the artist explores the possibilities of clay by adding layers of texture, underglaze, slip and glaze to create ceramics surfaces with contrasting colours and modernist aesthetics. Her work is largely influenced by abstract art with inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich and the Bauhaus movement.

Mariane creates functional contemporary ceramics for everyday life. Before becoming a full-time ceramicist, she had been a fashion stylist for 10 years and learnt how things can be fun and functional at the same time. Applying that on her ceramic design, her works are bold in colour and simple in shape.
