和楽 Wagaku Exhibition: 14th May - 7th June
Introducing the works of five different master craftsman, the Wagaku Exhibition was created with the intention of sharing some parts of traditional Japanese culture where artisanal craftsmanship is integral to the authenticity of the rituals.
The title - ‘Wagaku’ - embodies what we aim to express during our one month exhibition here in PMQ. Taking the 和 (wa) to invoke images of Japanese spirit, together with 楽 (gaku), meaning enjoyment through learning (学 - also pronounced ‘gaku'), we want to expand people’s knowledge about traditional Japanese culture and craftsmanship.
To curate the collection, Waka Artisans, Japanese pottery specialists based in Hong Kong, is teaming up with Gallery Hanna, a prestigious gallery based in Tochigi Prefecture, Utsunomiya. Expanding from Waka’s mission to bring authentic, handmade pottery to Hong Kong, we have called upon the expertise and guidance of Gallery Hanna owner, Asuko Thomas, to bring together the work of artisans from a range of craft-traditions that have been passed down through the generations.
With various events happening every weekend, we hope you will take this opportunity to see not only the beautiful works, but also learn about the time, effort and skill that goes into each and every creation.
